Uyra Sodoma

A visual artist and biologist, Uyra Sodoma is indigenous, diasporic, and a person of two spirits (Transvestite), that works an art educator at traditional communities. Living in an industrial territory in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, Uyra becomes the “Walking Tree”, using organic elements in her performances. Her work has integrated more than 50 collective and 5 individual exhibitions, including MAM Rio and the Currier Museum of Art (USA). Featured in the 34th Bienal de São Paulo and winner of awards such as PIPA and Arte Rio, Uyra tells stories of nature, enchantments and diasporas through photo-performances and installations that show us the relationships between forest and city.
